Atletico-bound Lacazette backtracks on Lyon exit

Should I stay or should I go?

That's a question Alexandre Lacazette is asking himself after the 24-year-old conceded his desire to leave the Ligue 1 giant for Atletico Madrid is clashing with his most recent admissions.

A brace in Lyon's finale against Nice gave Lacazette 100 goals with Les Gones, and in what was supposed to be his final match with his hometown club, the French international was given a standing ovation as he subbed off four minutes from time.

It was an ideal and emotional sending off for the striker who joined the club's famed youth ranks as a 12-year-old, though now it appears premature as Lacazette considers his options with Atletico's current transfer ban looming large.

"It's not sure that I leave the club where I came through the youth academy," Lacazette said, courtesy of ESPN FC. "There's nothing signed, nothing official. Yes, I can leave, it doesn't mean I'll leave."

With the Antoine Griezmann soap opera forcing Diego Simeone's side to look elsewhere for attacking help, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas said last week that Atletico and Lacazette had a verbal agreement in place.

That may be all for not, with Lacazette adding that he's keeping his alternatives open.

"I'm at a crossroads. I'm not ruling out any option. I'm good in Lyon, but I could go elsewhere."
