MLB Today: King Felix holds court, Waino eyes bounceback

KING'S COURT

Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez makes his home debut in the series finale against Oakland. He allowed just one hit in six innings on opening day against Texas, but walked five. Hernandez will pass reliever Mike Jackson for the second-most pitching appearances with the Mariners at 336. Jeff Nelson leads with 432.

HOMECOMING

Adam Wainwright's fifth career opening day start for St. Louis didn't go as well as planned in a 4-1 loss at Pittsburgh. So the ace right-hander will aim again for his first win of the season at Atlanta. He is 8-2 with a 2.54 ERA in 15 career games, including 10 starts, vs. the Braves. The Cardinals acquired Wainwright, a native of Brunswick, Georgia, in a 2003 trade that sent outfielder J.D. Drew to the Braves.

FIRST TIMER

Right-hander Vance Worley makes his Baltimore Orioles debut in a matchup with Tampa Bay. Claimed off waivers from Pittsburgh in October, Worley will be making his 82nd career start - the first against the Rays. Jake Odorizzi, coming off a 10-strikeout performance against Toronto, will pitch for the Rays.

ROOKIES, ROOKIES EVERYWHERE

Seven starters made their major league debuts with the Cincinnati Reds last season, part of their move to rebuild with an all-rookie rotation. They've added two more already this year. Right-hander Tim Melville makes his debut in the final game of a series against the Pirates. Earlier in the week, righty Robert Stephenson made his debut in a win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Cincinnati has four starters on the disabled list.
