Dodgers fans invade Yankee Stadium with roll calls

Yankee Stadium was Dodgers territory Monday.

Early in Monday's tilt between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees, a sizable group of visiting Dodgers fans took over Yankee Stadium and made sure everyone knew about it. In a subtle jab to the home side, the fans emulated the Bleacher Creatures - the infamous diehard Bronx Bombers supporters at the stadium - by issuing roll calls for their own players and mixing it in some loud cheering.

Even skipper Dave Roberts, who tipped his cap to the traveling fans after the game, was taken back by the overwhelming support.

"I didn't know what to expect as far as Dodger support," he told reporters, according to Bill Plunkett of the OC Register. "It was as energetic as I've ever seen. For that group of people down the left-field line - also all over the stadium - that energy picked us up a lot. We travel well. But that I didn’t expect.

"To see that big flag out there - we had to give them a little acknowledgement after the game."

The plan worked, too, as Los Angeles routed New York 8-2.
