Dodgers' Gonzalez doubles to join 2,000 hit club

Tim Fuller / USA TODAY Sports

Adrian Gonzalez wasted little time reaching a major milestone in his return from a lengthy stay on the disabled list.

The Los Angeles Dodgers' first baseman doubled to lead off the sixth inning of Tuesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates to collect the 2,000th hit of his major league career.

Gonzalez became the 285th major leaguer to reach the milestone and is the seventh to do so while playing for the Dodgers. He's the 11th active player with at least 2,000 hits.

The five-time All-Star was activated from the DL late last week after a two month absence with a back injury. He's collected hits in four of the five games since.
