Harper helps Nationals fan learn he's about to become a dad
Bryce Harper's a pretty good defensive outfielder, but the most important assist of his career might have just come off the field.
Ahead of Tuesday night's spring tilt against the Mets, Harper helped two of his biggest fans make a very special moment even more memorable. Lauren, a Washington Nationals supporter who was at spring training with her husband Will, got Harper to reveal her pregnancy to Will - on their two-year wedding anniversary, no less.
Lauren told Cut4's Matt Monagan that she used Nats manager Dave Martinez as a messenger, and Martinez arranged for Harper to find Will - described by Lauren as the "biggest Harper fan alive" - and sign his bat as a distraction.
"While (Will's) distracted by (Harper), (Martinez) reaches over the fence to me where I secretly hand him a sonogram picture of our baby so he can hand it off to Bryce," Lauren said. "After signing (the bat), Bryce looks at Will and says, 'Happy anniversary, and congratulations, by the way,' and hands Will the picture.
"Will was just caught up in the moment and couldn't process what was happening. Then it hits him. Will turns to me and with the most confused and excited look on his face says, 'Really?!'"
Will was over the moon after learning he's about to become a first-time father. And in addition to the autograph, both of the parents-to-be got some extra pictures with the former MVP to remember their special day.
Harper was pretty excited for Will and Lauren, too - and he's already trying to sell them on a potential name.
