With less than an hour to go before Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline, the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired All-Star second baseman Brian Dozier from the Minnesota Twins.
In exchange for Dozier, the Twins get veteran infielder Logan Forsythe, minor-leaguer left-hander Devin Smeltzer, and outfield prospect Luke Raley from Los Angeles.
Dozier, an impending free agent, received downballot American League MVP votes in each of the previous three seasons but has regressed at the plate in 2018, hitting .224/.305/.402 (91 OPS+) with 16 homers, 21 doubles, and eight stolen bases through 104 games. He has spent his entire career with the Twins, who originally selected him in the eighth round of the 2009 draft.
Meanwhile, Forsythe - now in the final season of a three-year, $18.25-million deal - has also endured a rough season, managing a career-worst .560 OPS in a reserve role with the Dodgers.
Smeltzer, 22, has been roughed up at Double-A Tulsa in 2018, posting a 4.73 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 14 starts and nine relief appearances.
Raley, who has also spent the entire season in Tulsa, owns an .822 OPS with 17 homers and 17 doubles through 93 games. MLB Pipeline recently ranked him as the Dodgers' 19th-best prospect.
