New York Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius will undergo Tommy John surgery on his throwing arm, manager Aaron Boone said, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
Boone said Gregorius will be back at some point during the 2019 season and added that it's "realistic he can play the bulk of the season for us."
Barring an offseason acquisition, Gleyber Torres seems the most likely candidate to fill in at short while Gregorius is out. The 21-year-old spent the majority of his rookie year at second base but is a natural shortstop and logged 21 games at the position this season.
Gregorius slashed .268/.335/.494 with 27 homers, 86 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases in 2018.
