Dodgers lose after holding 4-run lead for 1st time in 2018
The Los Angeles Dodgers were in cruise control, and almost as soon as Rich Hill was taken out of Game 4 of the World Series, everything unraveled.
The Boston Red Sox rallied to score nine runs in the final three innings for a comeback victory. It was especially improbable because the Dodgers had not allowed a single team to beat them after leading by four or more runs this season, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
Including the postseason, the Dodgers had gone 54-0 in such games and were the only team in Major League Baseball who had gone unbeaten in games they led by at least four runs.
The collapse couldn't have come at a worse time, as the loss puts the Dodgers in a 3-1 series hole.
Additionally, the last time the Dodgers lost a game after leading by four runs came in Game 5 of the 2017 World Series against the Houston Astros. They led that game 4-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning before it really got out of hand, eventually ending 13-12 in 10 innings.
The Dodgers will look to pull off an unlikely comeback of their own as they go into Game 5.
