Report: Phillies, White Sox eyeing Moustakas if Machado goes elsewhere
The Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago White Sox appear to be keeping tabs on free-agent third baseman Mike Moustakas.
Both teams will consider contract offers for the 30-year-old if or when Manny Machado - the preferred option for both clubs - decides to sign elsewhere, sources told Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
The Phillies will likely try to move Maikel Franco should they sign Moustakas or Machado, reports Morosi, who adds the San Diego Padres could be a fit as they've expressed interest in Franco in the past.
Morosi suggests the Padres could also make a play for Moustakas if they trade a corner infielder since he would likely welcome a reunion with close friend and former Kansas City Royals teammate Eric Hosmer.
A two-time All-Star, Moustakas slashed .251/.315/.459 with 28 home runs and 95 RBIs in 156 games split between the Royals and Milwaukee Brewers in 2018.
