Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner suffered a broken index finger during Tuesday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies, according to Jamal Collier of MLB.com.
"It’s never fun," Turner said, according to Collier. "Doesn’t matter if it’s the first game or the last game of the year - injuries aren’t fun. Takes you out of the lineup, takes you out of the game and you just want to be out there competing. Not fun, but it is what it is."
The Nationals placed Turner on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday and recalled Adrian Sanchez to take his place on the roster.
Manager Dave Martinez didn't have a timetable for Turner's return.
The 25-year-old left Tuesday's contest after taking a pitch off his hand following a first-inning bunt attempt. Wilmer Difo took over at short for Washington after Turner departed.
