White Sox slugger Anderson: 'I don't like the Royals'
On Wednesday evening, Kansas City Royals starter Glenn Sparkman was immediately ejected for beaning Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson in the second inning.
After the game, an 8-7 victory for the White Sox, Anderson let his feelings be known about the division rival.
"From my end, I don't like the Royals," he told Vinnie Duber of NBC Sports Chicago following the win, which punctuated a three-game sweep of Kansas City - something the shortstop later noted via Twitter:
"It's going to be a forever beef for me," Anderson continued. "But we are going to try to whoop them every time we play them. Just period, man. I don't like them."
Despite his feelings about the Royals, the 25-year-old Anderson actually admitted he believed Sparkman's errant pitch was unintentional.
"I knew it was an accident," Anderson said. "I saw it on his face. He was looking scared. It was a changeup that got away from him is what I believe. It was a tough moment for me, but I was able to control myself and stay in the game."
Wednesday's hit-by-pitch was the first plate appearance Anderson had made against Kansas City since mid-April, when Royals starter Brad Keller intentionally plunked him for bat flipping and was suspended for five games. Anderson was also ejected for the ensuing fracas and served a one-game suspension.
After going 1-for-3 with a double during Wednesday's game, Anderson leads the American League with a .337 batting average. He's also posted an .880 OPS with eight home runs and 13 stolen bases in 48 games.
