Red Sox designate Nunez for assignment

The Boston Red Sox designated utility man Eduardo Nunez for assignment on Monday, the team announced.
Boston also optioned right-hander Hector Velazquez to Triple-A Pawtucket while adding right-hander Ryan Weber and utility man Sam Travis to the 25-man roster.
Nunez, 32, put up an .892 OPS in 38 games after being traded to Boston from the San Francisco Giants during the 2017 season. Following the campaign, he signed a new contract that included a $5-million player option for 2019 that he exercised.
Since signing his new deal, Nunez has accrued a .643 OPS and -1.4 WAR in 187 games.
