Report: Yelich out 6 weeks, won't need surgery on fractured kneecap

Outfielder Christian Yelich will be out six weeks with a fractured kneecap but won't need surgery, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports.

The Milwaukee Brewers star suffered the injury during the first inning of Tuesday's game against the Miami Marlins when he fouled a pitch off his right knee.

After Wednesday's contest versus Miami, teammate Ryan Braun revealed he was wearing Yelich's jersey under his own during the game.

"Just for good luck," Braun said, according to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "They're about the same size. It felt a little different, but I was just trying to bring the good vibes."

Braun said he will do the same for Thursday's game, according to Rosiak.

"I think everybody enjoyed it," he added. "Gave everybody a little laugh before the game. Keep the boys loose. Didn't necessarily help me personally, but for us as a group, maybe it contributed to our success."

Yelich, the 2018 NL MVP, was in contention to repeat before going down. The 27-year-old ended the regular season hitting 329/.429/.671 with 44 homers, 97 RBIs, 29 doubles, 30 stolen bases, and 7.7 WAR.
