Report: Braves, Nats, Twins table Donaldson offers in 4-year, $100M range
Free-agent third baseman Josh Donaldson is going to get paid whenever he decides what team he wants to play for.
The Atlanta Braves, Minnesota Twins, and Washington Nationals are offering Donaldson four-year contracts in the $100-million range, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are also still in the mix, according to Feinsand.
Donaldson, 34, is the last remaining star third baseman available via free agency, so there's no rush to complete a deal due to the lack of competition at the position, Feinsand notes.
It was previously reported that the 2015 AL MVP had four-year offers on the table from the Nationals and Twins, but the financial terms hadn't been disclosed.
Should Washington miss out on the three-time All-Star, the club could pursue trade options to fill the massive void left after Anthony Rendon joined the Los Angeles Angels. However, the Nationals are reluctant to make outfielder Victor Robles available in discussions with the Colorado Rockies for Nolan Arenado and the Chicago Cubs for Kris Bryant, sources told Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
Donaldson hit .259/.379/.521 with 37 homers in 2019 while playing for the Braves. He won the National League Comeback Player of the Year Award for his strong season following a 2018 campaign riddled with injuries.
