Rockies GM: Arenado trade talks off the table

Nolan Arenado isn't going anywhere - at least for now.

Colorado Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich said Monday that the All-Star third baseman is no longer on the trade block, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.

"With the season coming up and spring training on the horizon, we are going to start focusing on that," Bridich said. "We have listened to teams regarding Nolan and really nothing has come of it. We are going to move forward pretty much as we expected - with Nolan in the purple and black and as our third baseman.

"So we can put this to bed and collectively look forward to the upcoming season and work toward that."

A trade involving Arenado was unlikely before the spring, sources told Saunders, who adds a deal would be more probable after the All-Star break if the Rockies play poorly in the first half of the 2020 campaign.

The St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, and Atlanta Braves were all reportedly in the mix for the seven-time Gold Glove winner. However, Colorado's asking price for the five-time All-Star was very high, according to Saunders.

The Cardinals were rumored to be looking to add a star player before spring training, but team owner Bill DeWitt Jr. said Monday that the club isn't actively seeking impact trades, according to Mark Saxon of The Athletic.

Texas and Atlanta, meanwhile, still have holes to address at the hot corner after failing to land Josh Donaldson or Anthony Rendon in free agency.

Arenado agreed last winter to an eight-year, $260-million extension, which includes a full no-trade clause and an opt-out following the 2021 season.

The 28-year-old posted a .962 OPS with 41 home runs and 118 RBIs for the Rockies last season.
