Report: Dodgers trading Pederson, Stripling to Angels in multi-player deal
The Los Angeles Dodgers are sending outfielder Joc Pederson to the Los Angeles Angels in a multi-player trade that will land them infielder Luis Rengifo in return, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.
Right-hander Ross Stripling is also headed to Anaheim with Pederson, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic on Wednesday. Additionally, the Dodgers are sending outfield prospect Andy Pages to the Angels, a source told ESPN's Kiley McDaniel.
It's believed other pieces are also involved, according to Rosenthal.
Completion of the trade is pending the results of medicals, Passan reported Tuesday.
The reported trade comes shortly after reports emerged indicating the Dodgers have agreed to a three-way deal to land Mookie Betts and David Price from the Boston Red Sox.
Pederson is coming off a career-best season when he hit 36 home runs while slashing .249/.339/.538 in 149 games. The 27-year-old should see plenty of time in the Angels' outfield alongside Mike Trout, Justin Upton, and, eventually, top prospect Jo Adell. His ability to contribute at first base will be valuable upon Adell's arrival.
This season marks Pederson's third and final year of arbitration. He's yet to agree to a contract for 2020 and will have a hearing later in February. Pederson filed for arbitration at $9.5 million; the Dodgers, his now-former team, countered at $7.75 million.
Stripling, an All-Star with the Dodgers in 2018, posted a 3.47 ERA, 3.47 FIP, and 1.15 WHIP with 93 strikeouts and 20 walks over 90 2/3 innings last year. He's worked as a swingman throughout his career; 15 of his 32 appearances in 2019 were starts.
The 30-year-old avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.1-million contract earlier this winter. Stripling has another two years of team control remaining.
The Dodgers signed Pages for $300,000 in 2018. The 19-year-old prospect hit .298/.398/.651 with 19 homers, 55 RBIs, and seven stolen bases in 63 games with Rookie-level Ogden in 2019, his first pro season in the U.S.

Rengifo joins the Dodgers after a 108-game rookie season in 2019, hitting .238/.321/.364 with seven home runs while primarily playing second base. The 22-year-old isn't eligible for arbitration until 2023.
