Josh Harris and David Blitzer, the owners of the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers and NHL's New Jersey Devils, are among the suitors looking to purchase the New York Mets, sources told Scott Soshnick of Variety.

Talks are still in the early stages, according to Soshnick, who adds that the Mets have retained Allen & Co.'s Steve Greenberg to oversee the sale of the club.

In addition to owning multiple professional sports teams, Harris is the billionaire co-founder of Apollo Global Management, while Blitzer is an executive with financial firm Blackstone.

Baseball legend Alex Rodriguez and his wife, recording artist and actress Jennifer Lopez, are reportedly working with senior bankers at JP Morgan Chase to prepare their own new bid for the Mets.

The Wilpon family has owned a portion of the team since 1980. Hedge fund operator Steve Cohen backed out of buying an 80% stake in the club in February.

Forbes valued the Mets at $2.8 billion in 2020.
