Cleveland Indians outfielder Delino DeShields Jr. tested positive for COVID-19 prior to arriving at camp, team president Chris Antonetti announced Friday, according to Mandy Bell of MLB.com.
Antonetti said DeShields has been experiencing mild symptoms, and he's waiting to test negative before coming to Cleveland, Bell adds.
The Indians acquired DeShields and reliever Emmanuel Clase last December in a deal that saw two-time Cy Young winner Corey Kluber head to the Texas Rangers. MLB suspended Clase for 80 games in May after he tested positive for a banned performance-enhancing drug.
DeShields, 26, owns a career .668 OPS over 539 contests with the Rangers.
