Alexander also established a new MLB record for a reliever, according to Robert Flores of MLB Network. The 26-year-old finished with 10 strikeouts across 3 2/3 innings and didn't surrender a hit.
"I normally don't try to strike people out," Alexander said postgame, according to Jason Beck of MLB.com. "But I would say after the fifth strikeout I was trying to strike people out."
Former major leaguer Doug Fister also struck out nine straight in September 2012 while pitching for the Tigers. Hall of Famer Tom Seaver owns the all-time MLB mark with 10 successive strikeouts in a contest in April 1970.
