Report: Field of Dreams game between Cardinals, White Sox canceled
The Field of Dreams game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox scheduled for Aug. 13 in Dyersville, Iowa, has been canceled, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
The cancellation appears to be due to logistical issues rather than the Cardinals' recent COVID-19 outbreak, Rosenthal adds.
As of Monday, 13 people within the Cardinals organization had tested positive for COVID-19.
St. Louis was selected in July to replace the New York Yankees as Chicago's opponent for the contest after Major League Baseball said it hoped to move forward with the event despite concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.
The game is expected to take place in 2021 and involve the White Sox, according to Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register. Chicago's opponent is yet to be determined.
