The San Francisco Giants have promoted catcher Joey Bart to the major-league roster, the team announced Thursday.

Bart is the Giants' top prospect and is ranked No. 15 overall by MLB Pipeline.

The 23-year-old will be in the Giants' lineup against the Los Angeles Angels Thursday, president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi confirmed, according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Since Buster Posey opted out of the season, the Giants have been using a catching tandem of Tyler Heineman and Chadwick Tromp. Meanwhile, Bart was developing at the team's alternate training site in Sacramento.

Heineman and Tromp have combined for just 16 hits in 95 plate appearances this season.

San Francisco selected the youngster second overall in the 2018 draft after he won the Johnny Bench Award as the nation's top collegiate catcher for Georgia Tech.

He hit .278/.328/.495 with 16 home runs, 14 doubles, and 48 RBIs in 79 minor-league games last season.
