The Chicago Cubs placed third baseman Kris Bryant on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a sprained left ring finger.

The move is retroactive to Wednesday, meaning he'll be eligible to return for next weekend's doubleheader in Cincinnati against the Reds, according to Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago.

Bryant sustained the injury last week on a diving catch attempt while playing left field in Cleveland. Though he initially missed two games, the finger continued to bother him after he returned to the lineup and he hasn't played since Monday.

While the finger issue is the reason he's on the IL, the Cubs also said Bryant is still dealing with a left wrist issue that continues to bother him, according to Patrick Mooney of The Athletic.

Bryant was struggling at the plate this season even before the finger injury. Through 16 games, the former NL MVP is hitting a meager .177/.271/.323 with two homers, four RBIs, and 20 strikeouts.

The Cubs did not make a corresponding roster move to replace Bryant on the active roster. As a result, they'll play a man short Saturday against the White Sox.
