Giants DFA former All-Star Samardzija
The San Francisco Giants announced they designated right-hander Jeff Samardzija for assignment and placed the 13-year veteran on unconditional release waivers, according to Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area.
Samardzija posted a 9.72 ERA across four starts during the 2020 campaign.
Not sure why the #SFGiants cut Samardzija with two days to go. That might’ve been the only move they could make to remove him as the 29th man from the doubleheader without optioning another player. They couldn’t option Samardzija.

Samardzija is in the final season of a five-year, $90-million pact he signed with the Giants as a free agent in December 2015. The 35-year-old posted a 3.52 ERA last season across 181 1/3 innings with San Francisco.
The former All-Star said Friday that he plans to pitch in 2021, according to Kerry Crowley of the Bay Area News Group.
