Cashman: Marlins' Ng was 'indispensable' while with Yankees
New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is a big fan of new Miami Marlins GM Kim Ng, who became the first woman in MLB history hired for that position on Friday.
Ng worked with Cashman as assistant GM while with the Yankees from 1998 to 2001. She owns three championship rings from her time with the Bronx Bombers.
"I was truly excited for Kim when I learned that she had been named general manager of the Miami Marlins," Cashman said in a statement. "It is wonderful seeing people accomplish their stated goals, and this has been a dream of hers for as long as I've known her.
"As assistant general manager with the Yankees, she was indispensable to me when I first began my tenure as the GM. Kim was a tireless and dedicated executive back then, and in the ensuing years, she has ceaselessly added to her skill set to maximize her talent."
Ng is also familiar with Marlins CEO Derek Jeter from her time in New York. The 51-year-old Asian American has worked for the Chicago White Sox (1990-96), Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers (2002-11), and the MLB commissioner's office (2011-20) during her 30-year career.
