Phillies name Sam Fuld as new GM
The Philadelphia Phillies promoted Sam Fuld to be their new general manager, the team announced Tuesday.
Fuld, who played in the majors for eight years from 2007 to 2015, was working as a major-league player information coordinator with the Phillies.
The 39-year-old will now work under new president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski.
Fuld finished runner-up to Alex Cora for the Boston Red Sox managerial job before reportedly taking the Phillies' gig.
The team said Jorge Velandia will be an assistant GM and Terry Ryan is going to be a special assistant to the GM in Philadelphia's new-look front office.
Former Phillies GM Matt Klentak stepped down in early October after the club failed to make the playoffs for a ninth consecutive campaign. The team proceeded to hire Dombrowski in December.
