Tatis tests positive for COVID-19, 2 other Padres placed on IL
Fernando Tatis Jr. has tested positive for COVID-19, San Diego Padres manager Jayce Tingler said, according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com.
The star shortstop was placed on the injured list Tuesday due to health and safety protocols.
Tingler added that Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo are also out because they were determined to have been in close contact with Tatis, who's feeling well and isn't experiencing any symptoms.
Tatis is by far the most significant player sidelined. The 22-year-old has recorded nine homers with an .867 OPS over 26 games this season.
Tuesday's contest between the Padres and Colorado Rockies will still go ahead as scheduled.
San Diego recalled Tucupita Marcano and Nabil Crismatt, and selected John Andreoli in corresponding moves.
