Yankees coaches Nevin, Willits among 3 to test positive for COVID-19
New York Yankees third base coach Phil Nevin has tested positive for COVID-19, the club announced Tuesday.
Nevin is fully vaccinated.
"He is currently under quarantine protocol in Tampa," the team said in a statement. "Under Major League Baseball's guidance and advice, and with its assistance, additional testing and contact tracing are ongoing."
New York announced after Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays that first base coach Reggie Willits and a non-coach staff member also tested positive, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.
Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole said the players held a meeting and decided to take the field against the Rays.
"As a whole, we're looking to press on." the ace said.
New York is one of a handful of clubs that have reached the league's 85% vaccination threshold. All coaching and support staff were vaccinated, according to Lindsey Adler of The Athletic.
