The Colorado Rockies say the fan investigated for possibly shouting a racial slur at Miami Marlins outfielder Lewis Brinson during Sunday's game at Coors Field was trying to get the attention of the club's mascot, Dinger, and didn't use offensive language, the team announced Monday.

"After a thorough investigation that included calls, emails, and video clips from concerned fans, media, and broadcast partners, the Colorado Rockies have concluded that the fan was indeed yelling for Rockies mascot dinger in hopes of getting his attention for a photo, and there was never any racial slur that occurred," the club said.

"The Rockies remain dedicated to providing an inclusive environment for all fans, players, and guests at Coors Field, and any fan using derogatory language of any kind will be ejected from Coors Field," the statement continued.

Colorado announced it was investigating the situation on Sunday night after the contest.

The fan yelling could be heard on the broadcast during Brinson's ninth-inning at-bat, prompting an apology to viewers from Marlins play-by-play voice Paul Severino. Severino issued a statement of regret for his error Monday:

San Diego Padres outfielder Tommy Pham said Sunday he was subject to racist taunts in Colorado earlier this season.
