New York Mets outfielder Kevin Pillar doesn't appreciate spectators who are making fun of a protective mask he wears due to multiple nasal fractures that a fastball to the face caused in mid-May.
"People are rude," Pillar said Saturday, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. "People are mean. ... I would say it's all in good fun, but it's kind of sad at some point. But it is what it is."
Pillar returned to the Mets' lineup Wednesday, and he wears the mask while playing in the outfield and running the bases.
The 32-year-old has recorded three hits in 16 at-bats since missing two weeks due to his injuries.
