The Cleveland Indians announced Monday that ace Shane Bieber was placed on the injured list with a right shoulder strain, according to Mandy Bell of MLB.com.
Manager Terry Francona said Bieber won't throw for two weeks and will then be re-evaluated.
Losing the reigning American League Cy Young winner for an extended period would be a blow to Cleveland's playoff aspirations. The 26-year-old leads the majors with 130 strikeouts over 90 2/3 innings (14 starts).
The right-hander owns a 2.52 ERA with 13.5 K/9 since the start of last season.
