The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed No. 1 overall pick Henry Davis to a contract.

The deal is for $6.5 million, which is well below the $8,415,300 value of the first overall selection, according to MLB.com's Jim Callis.

Pittsburgh drafted Davis, a catcher from Louisville, in the 2021 MLB Draft on July 11.

The pick surprised many as Davis was projected to go in the top 10 but wasn't expected to be the first name off the board.
