Correa wants to win title in 'last year with the Astros'
Carlos Correa doesn't plan on returning to the Houston Astros after his contract expires at the end of the 2021 campaign.
"My last year with the Astros, hopefully we can win another championship," said Correa, according to Andy McCullough of The Athletic. "I can leave this great organization with two of them."
Correa rejected extension offers from Houston before the season after setting an Opening Day deadline for negotiations. The two-time All-Star received a six-year, $120-million offer and a five-year, $125-million offer.
He said in April the two sides didn't come close to a deal.
The 26-year-old could end up being the top shortstop available in free agency. Corey Seager has only played in 59 games due to injuries this season, Trevor Story is producing a below-average campaign based on his previous standards, and Javier Baez owns a .760 OPS over 103 games between the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets.
Correa is posting the best numbers in the group, slashing .278/.371/.479 with 19 homers and 68 RBIs over 116 contests for the AL West-leading Astros.
