Arenado wins 5th straight Platinum Glove, Correa collects 1st
St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado won his fifth consecutive Platinum Glove as the National League's best overall defender, MLB announced Friday.
Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa was named the recipient of the award in the American League. It's his first time collecting the honor.
Arenado, who's won a Gold Glove in all nine seasons he's played in the majors, is the only player to collect five Platinum Gloves in MLB history.
The six-time All-Star has accrued 136 defensive runs saved since the inception of the stat in 2002, the second-most in all of baseball.
Correa won his first Gold Glove last season after posting the second-best defensive rating in the AL for his position and an MLB-best 21 defensive runs saved, according to FanGraphs.
Meanwhile, the Astros won another Gold Glove as the AL's best defensive team, while the Cardinals won the honor in the NL. The Astros had two individual Gold Glove winners and St. Louis made history with five.
