Report: Mets, Canha agree to 2-year, $26.5M deal
The New York Mets and free-agent outfielder/first baseman Mark Canha have agreed to a two-year, $26.5-million deal with a third-year option, a source told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
The 32-year-old has spent his entire major-league career with the Oakland Athletics, hitting .244/.344/.431 with 89 homers and 29 steals while playing 645 games over seven seasons.
Known for his on-base acumen, Canha can play any outfield position, making 23 appearances in center field last year for the A's.
The addition of Canha marks a busy Thanksgiving weekend for the Mets, who also reportedly added infielder Eduardo Escobar on a two-year, $20-million contract Friday. They also missed out on reuniting with left-handed starter Steven Matz earlier in the week.
Canha joins a Mets outfield that's slated to include Brandon Nimmo as well, and it could also feature Jeff McNeil, J.D. Davis, or Dominic Smith. The club is dealing with the potential loss of Michael Conforto, who rejected his one-year, $18.4-million qualifying offer at the beginning of the offseason.
