Stroman: 'Manclown' needs to stop ruining baseball
Chicago Cubs right-hander Marcus Stroman is the latest major leaguer to slam MLB commissioner Rob Manfred as the lockout continues to drag on with spring training fast approaching.
"Manclown and his boys need to figure it out and stop ruining the game of baseball," Stroman tweeted Sunday in response to a Sports Illustrated story about the 2022 regular season potentially not starting on time due to the labor impasse.
Stroman's comments come days after several other players publicly voiced their frustrations with the state of negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement after the union rejected MLB's request for federal mediation.
Trevor May, a teammate while Stroman was with the New York Mets, also accused Manfred of not negotiating in good faith.
The players have been locked out since the last CBA expired in early December. Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to spring training Feb. 14, with exhibition games beginning Feb. 26. However, the work stoppage has created uncertainty surrounding those dates.
