The San Diego Padres have discussed potential deals involving right-hander Chris Paddack and left-hander Ryan Weathers, according to Dennis Lin of The Athletic.
The Padres are reportedly looking to improve their outfield. Trent Grisham, Wil Myers, and Jurickson Profar are the projected starters for Opening Day.
San Diego has targeted All-Star outfielder Bryan Reynolds but the Pittsburgh Pirates' price remains high, sources told Lin.
Paddack and Weathers - two former top pitching prospects - haven't panned out in the majors yet. The 26-year-old Paddack posted a 5.07 ERA with 99 strikeouts over 108 1/3 innings (22 starts) last season, while the 22-year-old Weathers authored a 5.32 ERA with a 1.38 WHIP across 94 2/3 innings (18 starts) in 2021.
