An ugly incident overshadowed a great game between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians on Saturday.

Yankees fans threw trash at Guardians players in the outfield after Gleyber Torres ended the contest with a walk-off hit.

Guardians outfielder Myles Straw got into it with the fans right before the incident.

"I'm not talking. I'll let the fans talk for me. Classless ... Worst fan base on the planet," Straw said postgame, according to The Athletic.

Meanwhile, outfielder Oscar Mercado said he was almost hit in the face by a beer can, while Straw revealed Trevor Stephan got pelted with an ice cream cone, per Zack Meisel of The Athletic.

"We're out there playing a game and it's for their entertainment and we're competing our butts off and so is their team, so root all you want. Talk smack all you want," Mercado said, according to Tom Withers of The Associated Press. "It's all fun and games, just don't be an a-hole about it and definitely don't bring violence into it."

Cleveland's outfield was involved in multiple jawing matches with spectators during the game, reports Joe Trezza of MLB.com.

"There's no place for throwing stuff on the field," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who tied the game up in the bottom of the ninth inning for New York before Torres won it, acknowledged the incident is a bad look.

"That can't happen ... I love the fans, love the atmosphere, but we win with class," Kiner-Falefa said.
