Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani was removed from Sunday's game against the Chicago White Sox due to right groin tightness, the club announced.
The Angels replaced Ohtani with pinch-hitter Jack Mayfield in the ninth inning.
The reigning AL MVP said postgame that he was taken out for precautionary reasons and expects to play Monday, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.
Ohtani is off to a slow start this season. The 27-year-old has gone deep four times with a .685 OPS over 22 contests while posting a 4.19 ERA with 30 strikeouts over four starts.
