Bumgarner appeared to receive a different check than Marlins right-hander Elieser Hernandez:

Right-hander Corbin Martin replaced Bumgarner in the second inning. Martin went on to allow two runs on three hits and four walks over four innings of work. The D-Backs rallied in the ninth, scoring two runs to beat the Marlins 8-7. Keynan Middleton picked up the win.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that the umpires explained why Bumgarner was ejected, but Lovullo didn't say if it was because of something Bumgarner said on the way back to the dugout, according to Al Butler of UPI. He also said that Bumgarner passed his substance check.
Following the game, the veteran southpaw also said that he knew why he was ejected but noted that he likely couldn't say anything to make the situation better:
"Have you ever had a hand check quite like that?"

"No, I haven't seen one like that."

Bumgarner also said, "No, I haven't seen (a hand check) like that," but would not weigh in on the situation much further.
When asked if he has any specific history with Bellino, Bumgarner said "Not that I know of; I don't know."
The four-time All-Star now possesses a 1.50 ERA over six starts this year, striking out 15 and walking 11 over 24 innings.
