Report: Twins, Correa discussed long-term contract
The Minnesota Twins and shortstop Carlos Correa have talked about a long-term deal, a source told Dan Hayes of The Athletic.
However, the discussions weren't considered formal, according to Hayes.
Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey said his club continues to be in contact with Correa and his agent, Scott Boras.
"It's pretty clear to us he likes us," Falvey said. "We like him. If there's a way to find a match, that's going to be something we're going to try to explore. We also recognize there's a market. He deserves a right to figure out what that market looks like. It just might take a little bit of time."
Correa, who's free to sign a contract with a new team as of Thursday after opting out of his deal with the Twins, will be one of the top free agents available in a top-heavy shortstop class that also includes Trea Turner, Dansby Swanson, and Xander Bogaerts.
The 28-year-old Correa shocked the baseball world last offseason by signing a lucrative three-year deal with Minnesota that included multiple opt-out clauses.
The two-time All-Star hit 22 homers with an .834 OPS over 136 games in 2022.
