The Oakland Athletics announced Friday that they agreed to a one-year contract with reliever Trevor May.
May will get $7 million in 2023, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN. The right-hander also reportedly receives a $1-million signing bonus and can make another $500,000 through performance incentives.
The Athletics designated outfielder Cody Thomas for assignment to make room for May on their 40-man roster.
May posted a 3.87 FIP with 30 strikeouts over 26 appearances for the New York Mets last season. He only logged 25 innings because of multiple injuries.
The 33-year-old's best season came in 2019 with the Minnesota Twins when he authored a 2.94 ERA with an 11.1 K/9 over 64 1/3 innings.
