Report: Cubs agree to 1-year deal with Hosmer

The Chicago Cubs and first baseman Eric Hosmer agreed to a one-year contract, sources told Jesse Rogers of ESPN.

Chicago will pay Hosmer the league's minimum salary, as he's still owed $39 million on the final three years of a contract he signed with the San Diego Padres, according to Rogers' sources.

Hosmer became a free agent in mid-December when the Boston Red Sox released the former All-Star. He was dealt to Boston at last year's trade deadline by the Padres.

The 33-year-old hit eight homers with 44 RBIs and a .716 OPS over a combined 104 games between the Red Sox and Padres in 2022.

Chicago has also added Dansby Swanson, Cody Bellinger, and Jameson Taillon during an active offseason.
