Brewers' Woodruff out long term with subscapular strain in shoulder
Milwaukee Brewers starter Brandon Woodruff is dealing with a Grade 2 subscapular strain in his right shoulder.
"If this was something that happened midseason, All-Star break, right before or after that time, I would probably end up being done, to be honest, for the season," Woodruff said Saturday, according to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Woodruff landed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with what the team originally called shoulder inflammation before MRI results came back.
"No throwing until we get back home," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. "We'll have the doctors re-examine him when we get back home and then hopefully start to nail down a rehab progression and timeline. It's going to be longer than two weeks now, but definitive timelines we'll figure out when we get home."
Counsell added that Woodruff won't need surgery.
Woodruff has posted a 0.79 ERA with 12 strikeouts across 11 1/3 innings (two starts) to begin the 2023 campaign. The two-time All-Star owns a career 3.14 ERA with 1.07 WHIP and 10.5 K/9 over seven years with the Brewers.
