Pirates' City Connect uniforms lean on black, gold foundation
The Pittsburgh Pirates are the latest MLB team to unveil their City Connect uniforms.
The new threads focus on a black and gold palette that every professional sports team in Pittsburgh uses, which is a trait that can only be found in this U.S. city.
No matter how much we’ve evolved, what’s in our blood has always been true.

"We believe this uniform collaboration with Nike represents what being from Pittsburgh is all about," team president Travis Williams said, according to Justice delos Santos of MLB.com. "From a distance, a Pittsburgher is strong, sturdy, quiet, friendly and never showy or overstated. However, get to know someone from the city and you learn that there's more to them than meets the eye."
The shapes on the uniform are a nod to the famous "Steelmark" logo, Pittsburgh's city seal, and convergence of the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio Rivers.
The Pirates will debut their new look Tuesday against the San Diego Padres at PNC Park. The team will also wear the jerseys for every remaining Friday home game except for Roberto Clemente Day on Sept. 15.
