Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez will take part in the Home Run Derby on July 10 at Seattle's T-Mobile Park, he announced Friday on Twitter.
Rodriguez finished second at last year's event, losing to San Diego Padres superstar Juan Soto in the final. However, the reigning American League Rookie of the Year stole the show. He hit 28 more homers than anybody else in the field and knocked out New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso, who was the two-time defending champion.
The 22-year-old Rodriguez could become the youngest Home Run Derby winner if he comes close to repeating his 2022 performance.
The rest of the field hasn't been announced yet, but Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts said he would participate if he makes the All-Star team.
