Yankees adding sponsored patch to iconic uniform

The New York Yankees will become the 13th MLB team to use a sponsored jersey patch, the club announced Wednesday.

The Starr Insurance logos will be on the uniforms starting July 21.

The location of the patch is also going to vary from player to player, according to Chris Kirschner and Brendan Kuty of The Athletic.

New York's deal with Starr Insurance will net the club in the mid-$20-million range each year, a source told Peter Botte of the New York Post.

"We are extremely proud to welcome Starr Insurance as the Yankees' first-ever signature partner," Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner said in a statement. "Having had Starr as an insurance carrier of ours for the last decade and having worked closely with their leadership team as part of our pre-established partnership."

The deal reportedly runs through 2031.
