The Miami Marlins traded first baseman Garrett Cooper, minor-league right-hander Sean Reynolds, and cash to the San Diego Padres for left-hander Ryan Weathers, the Marlins announced Tuesday.

Cooper has gone deep 13 times with 46 RBIs over 82 games this season. The 2022 All-Star has played the majority of his seven-year career with the Marlins after a stint with the New York Yankees.

The 32-year-old joins a Padres club that already added Rich Hill, Scott Barlow, and Ji-Man Choi before the trade deadline.

Meanwhile, Weathers has struggled in 2023, posting a 6.25 ERA with 1.61 WHIP over 44 2/3 innings (10 starts). However, the former top pitching prospect is still just 23 years old.

Miami also had a busy day. The club reportedly acquired sluggers Josh Bell and Jake Burger.

Reynolds authored a 2.77 ERA with 54 strikeouts over 48 2/3 innings between Double-A and Triple-A in 2023.
