Red Sox officially eliminated, miss playoffs for 4th time in last 5 years

The Boston Red Sox were eliminated from the wild-card race after the Texas Rangers beat the Seattle Mariners on Friday.
Boston's very remote chances of making the playoffs were still alive because it owned a tiebreaker over the Rangers.
The club has now missed the postseason four times over the last five years.

The Red Sox (76-78) currently sit two games behind the New York Yankees for last in the AL East. The former also finished in the basement last season.
Chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom was fired in mid-September amid another underwhelming campaign after nearly four seasons at the helm of the front office.
