Report: Yankees emerge as candidate to sign Stroman
The New York Yankees' search for rotation help has led them to an unlikely free-agent option.
New York has emerged as a candidate to sign right-hander Marcus Stroman, a source told Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
Both sides have reportedly engaged in fruitful talks in recent days.
A potential union between the Yankees and Stroman is interesting considering their history.
The Blue Jays traded the two-time All-Star to the New York Mets on July 2019 after the Yankees refused to meet Toronto's asking price, which was centered around former top prospect Clint Frazier.
"We were interested in Stroman, but we didn't think he would be a difference-maker," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said at the time. "We felt he would be in our bullpen in the postseason."
Stroman subsequently tweeted out a graphic comparing his performance to Yankees starters following the comments:
The 32-year-old has scrubbed his X account of any negative tweets he made about the Yankees.
Stroman authored a 3.95 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP and 119 strikeouts over 136 2/3 innings (25 starts) for the Chicago Cubs last season.
