Braves, AA agree to big extension through 2031
The Atlanta Braves extended president of baseball operations and general manager Alex Anthopoulos to a multi-year contract through 2031, the club announced Friday.
"I'd like to thank (chairman) Terry (McGuirk) for his continued support and trust," Anthopoulos said in a statement. "The Braves are an incredible organization to be a part of, and I'm proud of the success we've achieved together. I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue to lead the baseball operations and to strive to bring another World Series to Atlanta."
Anthopoulos led the Braves to a 2021 World Series title. He's been the architect of six straight division-winning teams while posting a 515-354 regular-season record since becoming the club's GM in November 2017.
The 46-year-old is also responsible for signing young stars such as Ronald Acuña Jr., Ozzie Albies, Spencer Strider, Matt Olson, and Austin Riley to long-term extensions viewed as team-friendly.
Anthopoulos has finished as MLB's Executive of the Year runner-up in each of the last two years.
